Traveling — whether for business, for leisure, or for both — is a privilege. It is an opportunity to see the world, explore another culture, and have an adventure. However, there are certain things that a traveler must keep in mind to enhance the experience. Find a useful guideline on the basic travel dos and don’ts below:
DO: Research. It would be easier for you to know what to do and what not to do if you have done your research about the location you are moving to. This is an important step that you should note of before taking the flight or whatever means of transport you will use.
DO: Know what to pack. You would not want to be caught in a situation where your boarding flight is postponed or that you need to leave something behind from your luggage or that you will be charged extra for what you are carrying. Before you pack, call the airline company or the shipping company for you to know what kinds of things are prohibited and what are not as well as how much baggage is allowable
DO: Blend with the locals. As the saying goes, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” Then again, you should not go the whole nine yards for it. You just need to understand that even when you are just traveling to another city or region in your own country, the culture will still be different from the one you left back home.
DO NOT: Compare notes. You should embrace every new experience from your point of travel as something wonderfully new, regardless if it is somewhat negative. Do you find the prices quite high or the saleslady quite impatient? Just take everything with a grain of salt. Such differences are the very same things that will make your adventure a rewarding experience.
DO NOT: Stick to a strict plan. Traveling is more fun when you are actually up for fun surprises. Do not be afraid to go out of your way to experience something that piques your interest.
DO NOT: Be too adventurous on food. This is something that you should hold back a little. Do not eat anything and everything. A bad stomach or a case of indigestion can spoil a lot of things listed in your itinerary. A basic tip is to only eat food that is cooked, except of course for fruits. That is, of course, for foods that are unfamiliar to you.
Overall, take note of these basics and enjoy the experience.
